Callum Flannelly would rather jump into an open grave than go to dinner or the cinema with a stranger. Yet he can inherit the family funeral home and continue the work of several generations only if he marries before his thirty-fifth birthday, forcing him from the proverbial frying pan into the dating fire. Lark Thompson would rather be crushed by a falling anvil than stay next door to a funeral home during her time in Galway, Ireland. The spirited American animator has come back to find her zest for life, not to be reminded of the loss of her husband. When Lark learns about Callum’s dilemma and his reluctance to marry out of necessity rather than love, she agrees to help the introverted funeral-home owner. Although she has given up on love herself, she remains an optimist and believes Callum can find the right woman and secure his inheritance. But as their matchmaking project progresses, so does their friendship and mutual attraction. The more time Lark spends with the serious, sarcastic Callum, the more she fears he will succeed in finding a partner. And the more dreadful dates Callum endures, the more his heart aches at the thought of her imminent departure for the United States. If they think they can ignore the connection between them, they are gravely mistaken.
