Beschreibung
At eighteen, Marie voluntarily admits herself to a psychiatric hospital, but from that moment everything goes downhill. This Czech-language book presents a chillingly honest story from a place none of us longs to find ourselves. Marie has loving parents, a stable home and every reason to lead a happy life, yet something is wrong. She stops eating, cuts herself with a razor and learns from YouTube videos how to inject heroin, just to silence the voices in her head. But they cannot be silenced. They make her reject her medication and punish herself, otherwise they claim they will hurt her family. The boundary between hallucinations and reality begins to dissolve. Marie repeatedly returns to a locked ward, where she spends long hours and entire days strapped to a bed. She undergoes electroconvulsive therapy, but nothing helps. The system fails, and so does she. Even so, hope, humour and humanity occasionally break through the darkness.
