When the castle where maid Agnes Fitzgerald works is raided by the army of Prince Edward of England, she manages to escape north of Inverness, where she finds herself at the mercy of the lord and lady of Ravenscraig Castle. There she is safe for a brief moment, but as the Scots bravely fight for their independence, the atmosphere is thick with fear of the English army.
