Beschreibung
There is darkness in life, but also light, and you are one of those lights." – Bram Stoker, Dracula
Dracula is a Gothic horror novel from the late nineteenth century, written by Irish author Bram Stoker. The novel introduced the notoriously famous character of the vampire Count Dracula to world literature, telling the story of Dracula's attempts to move from his native Transylvania to Victorian London – the vampire thirsts for new blood, and each of his victims inevitably expands the ranks of the undead. A small group of friends led by the renowned Professor Abraham Van Helsing stands against him.
Dracula is categorized under many different genres, including vampire literature, horror, Gothic novel, and so-called invasion literature. The novel touches on a range of themes, such as the role of women in Victorian society, sexual conventions, immigration, colonialism, and post-colonialism. Although Stoker did not invent the vampire character, he undoubtedly gave it its modern form, and his cult novel has been adapted into countless theatrical, film, and television productions.
