Beschreibung
Poe drew inspiration for this story from a newspaper report about a shipwreck and the subsequent rescue of two men aboard a vessel. Published in 1838, this gripping sea adventure follows Pym, a boy from New England who secretly boards a whaling ship with Augustus, the captain’s son. The two boys repeatedly find themselves on the brink of death or in danger of being discovered, and witness many terrifying events, including a mutiny, cannibalism and frantic pursuits. Poe gives the story allegorical richness, biblical imagery and psychological insight, influencing many other writers, including Melville, James, Verne and Nabokov. The contents are in Czech.
