Tom Monderath is in love. With Jenny and her little four-month-old son, he is experiencing the happiest time of his life, but only until he accidentally runs into his seven-years-older half-brother Henk, who wants to know everything about their shared father, Konrad. Tom is at a loss and simultaneously angry. What has his father Konrad been hiding from him and his mother? However, Konrad died many years ago, and Tom can no longer ask anything of his demented mother Greta, who lives in her own world. He then sets out to trace Konrad, who lost his entire family during the bombing of Cologne as a child. Later, he ended up in American war captivity and, upon returning to Germany, fell head over heels in love with young Greta.
