Above a small town with high crime rates lies the mysterious Blackwood, a deep forest full of twisted, moss-covered trees, where the ancestral home of a renowned lineage of psychiatrists stands. However, on the day The Scarecrow is released, the horrific plot of the book begins to unfold in reality. Detective Mills uncovers a gruesome murder: a family dismembered and stuffed into cocoons sewn from corn husks and hung from the beams in a barn – a scene straight out of the opening of Bookman's latest horror. When another family is murdered in a similar manner, Mills, along with local police colleagues and his daughter Samantha, investigates how these murders – and especially the murderer – are connected to Bookman's newly released book. However, time is running out, as the horror story quickly rushes toward a terrifying climax.
