On the banks of the Calumet River, the body of a man is found, who was apparently murdered in a ritualistic and very brutal manner. Addie Bisset, a detective from the Chicago homicide department, seeks help from her friend Dr. Evan Wilding, a university professor and forensic semiotician. ***** However, Evan is not the only expert involved in the investigation, and the collaboration does not yield the expected results. Evan gradually uncovers symbols and clues, trying to decipher and correctly interpret messages written in runic script. From the puzzles left by the killer nicknamed the Viking Poet, it is clear that the number of victims will increase. ***** Initially, the police and Evan are uncertain whether the killer chooses his victims to honor the gods or to punish them for their sins. When they finally manage to uncover the motive, they realize that Evan's life is also in danger. And so begins a race against time, which shortens with each verse.
