About twenty-five kilometers from the town of Stauford in Kentucky lies Devil's Creek. According to local legend, there once stood the Church of the Holy Voices of Our Lord – a death cult where Jacob Masters preached the gospel of an unnamed god. And like most legends, there is a grain of truth among the roots and bones. In 1983, a mass suicide occurred at Devil's Creek, and the church burned down. Only six of Jacob's children and their grandparents, who stood against their former pastor, survived. The children became known as the "Stauford Six," and although their adolescence was marked by constant attention and ridicule from those around them, almost everyone had forgotten about them after thirty years. Their heavy fate is now a thing of the past, and only spooky stories about Jacob Masters remain to be told around the campfire. Jack Tremly, one of the Stauford Six, returns to Stauford after the death of his grandmother Imogene to settle the inheritance. However, he also discovers a secret that Imogene had previously kept from him, a secret concerning his father and the church. A secret that can no longer remain buried.
