The main character of the novel The Castle is a young land surveyor named K. He arrives from an unknown place to an unknown village to conduct geodetic measurements. Soon he notices that the local inhabitants do not trust him and are afraid of him. At first, he doesn't understand the situation very well, but gradually he realizes that the mysterious castle above the village influences all life here through various more or less significant bureaucrats. Why is the person who summoned him to the village suddenly throwing obstacles in his way? Kafka's absurdly grotesque novel is among his masterpieces. To this day, this book has hundreds, if not thousands, of fascinating interpretations, and it is absolutely certain that it will not leave contemporary readers at peace, as Kafka in his contradictions – that is the twentieth century, to which we all belong at least with one foot.
