This verse novel about a bored young man from high society is considered one of the foundational works of world literature. Eugene Onegin, saturated with social life in St. Petersburg, departs to the countryside, where he has inherited an estate from his uncle. His faithful friend, the poet Lensky, keeps him company, but Onegin's melancholy does not leave him even here. Thanks to Lensky, he meets Tatiana, who is so enchanted by Onegin that she desperately confesses her love to him in a letter. However, Onegin does not respond and rejects her feelings... After killing his friend Lensky in a duel, he embarks on a aimless journey around the world, but he finds no meaning in his life. When he finally realizes his mistake and returns to St. Petersburg, it is already too late for him and Tatiana... Pushkin's masterpiece is a story full of emotions and twists. His hero is often referred to as the so-called 'superfluous man,' and in this novel, written in an original form (the so-called Pushkin verse), Pushkin masterfully depicts the futility of human life.
