Beschreibung
Jack, as a fishing guide, starts at a Colorado lodge for the extremely wealthy clientele. The main character hopes to find solace in his favorite fly fishing after two traumatic losses he suffered some time ago, but from the very first day at his new job, something feels off, and some clients seem to be catching hardly any fish at all. So why did they even come – some even from abroad – and pay such outrageous amounts for flights and stays? Heller masterfully unravels the mystery and drives everything towards a dramatic, even action-packed resolution. The overall darkness of the story contrasts beautifully with the descriptions of the stunning nature, which the 'outdoor' author truly savors. After all, he claims that the landscape and nature are always something like a second protagonist for him. In Peter Heller's fifth novel (and his third in Czech), we once again meet Jack and Wynn from the book The River (Vendeta, 2020), although with Wynn only in memories. The author originally did not intend this, but he said: 'At the end of The River, Jack is in a really bad place, and I was worried about him. Then he suddenly appeared and stepped into my next book, but it gradually became clear that he was facing even harsher situations than in the previous one.'
