What is it like to know that you will soon die, and just wait until you dissolve? In the peaceful rural town of Tommerup on the Danish island of Fyn, summer idyll reigns. Charlotta, a young mother of two small children, disappears one morning on her way to the school where she works. Her desperate husband goes to the police in Odense to report her missing, but police inspector Liam Stark and commissioner Dea Torp decide not to launch a search because the woman has only been gone for a few hours. However, the next morning, the woman is still not home, and it soon becomes clear that she has fallen victim to a crime. In the following days, the case escalates to such proportions that people all over Fyn are afraid to leave their homes for fear of becoming the next in a series of disappearances. Liam and Dea are in a race against time, caught in a merciless game where people die a torturous death, and the police can only watch helplessly.
