Hana Hegerová was not just a singer; she had the rare ability to breathe life into poetic texts like few interpreters could. She could perfectly experience words that often cut to the core of life and convey that experience to her listeners. This was a gift that stemmed not only from her genetic makeup but, above all, from her life experiences. A sixteen-year-old singer could not have imbued such songs with the same power, and we would not have believed in their content. Hana Hegerová's life was tumultuous. Although she was born into a wealthy family of a bank director and did not suffer from poverty in her childhood, being an only child made her feel lonely. Therefore, she engaged in various hobbies, particularly ballet, which she had to give up due to illness, and she learned languages. Over time, she decided to become an actress. She completed an acting course at the conservatory, and quite early on, she had a child. However, due to the deteriorating life and political situation, she no longer lived materially as if wrapped in cotton. She was dependent on herself and her income from the theater, which was very low for a budding actress. Fate had it that we do not perceive Hana Hegerová as an actress but as a singer-chansonnière. She did act in a few films, but not everyone would remember them today. Her name is also associated with the theater stage...
