Pohádky bratří Grimmů – Grimm Jacob (2021)

The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are famous all over the world. Among the most well-known tales are undoubtedly Snow White, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel. Although the current form of the tales is characterized primarily by the triumph of good over evil and magical motifs, the original versions of the stories were often not intended for children at all, and the 'charming' fairy-tale quality we are used to would be hard to find in them... They were first published in two volumes, and the collection contained a total of 239 fairy tales. It should be noted that although the Brothers Grimm are considered the authors of the fairy tales, they were actually a collection of stories that already existed in oral form, and the brothers decided to preserve them from extinction. The tales were recorded according to tradition, and the first edition even used 10 dialects of the German language. In the original versions, violence, sex, and dark motifs were quite common. It is no wonder that the tales were revised several times to make them accessible to a children's reading audience. Many stories underwent numerous adaptations over several decades to align with ideas of what is suitable for children.
