Hope MacKenzie is an ordinary farm girl who moved to Vancouver to study creative writing. Storytelling has always been her passion; she even published a hugely successful fanfiction about her idol, singer Scott Plymouth, known as PLY, while in high school. One day, Hope receives a lucrative offer for her publication, but she also meets the real Scott. She recognizes him immediately, even though the singer is wearing an animal mask and has been avoiding the public for the past year. Hope also discovers that they are studying the same field and must collaborate in a seminar. Scott initially takes a dismissive attitude towards her, which begins to crack on a wild Halloween night. He realizes that Hope is not just some crazy fan, and she discovers how lonely Scott really is. The girl gradually penetrates his personal life and the dark sides of the entertainment industry, learning that her fanfiction is closer to reality than she would like. Is Scott's privacy more important to Hope, or is the tempting publishing offer that could solve her parents' financial troubles? And can Scott confront his inner demons and the pressure from those around him to return to his music career?
