Beschreibung
Emily, who grew up with her strict aunt in New Moon, left school and stepped into life convinced of two things – that she would be a famous writer and that her fate was intertwined with Teddy Kent's. Her friends Ilsa Burnley, Perry Miller, and Teddy Kent are leaving one by one to pursue their studies and continue on their path to their dreams. Emily turned down an offer for a writing career in New York and decided to stay in beloved New Moon, and although she misses her friends, she feels that her journey as a writer will be rather lonely. Ilsa, Teddy, and Perry return home only sporadically, and with each of their returns, Emily feels increasingly distanced from them, especially Teddy. Even though it troubles her, she hides her emotions to the extent that those around her perceive her as cold and aloof. Despite this, she receives marriage proposals and rejects both somewhat absurd suitors and guaranteed 'good matches.' All the more diligently, she throws herself into writing short stories and later her first book. However, it fails to find a publisher, and Emily loses her self-confidence and faith in Teddy's affection, deciding to give up writing and marry a man she does not love. Yet values and feelings cannot simply be turned upside down.
