Pošťák – Brin David (2021)

Twenty years after the devastating nuclear war, a nuclear winter reigns on Earth, and life in this post-apocalyptic world is not only harsh but primarily short. A civilization that can still boast some conveniences like electricity is gradually collapsing. In this bleak world, Gordon Krantz, the main character of this book, survives. As a member of the militia, he tries to protect the remnants of cities in Minnesota, which nevertheless fall victim to the rampages of holistic gangs, a self-proclaimed army of fighters. One frosty day, Gordon is robbed by a gang, and to survive, he hides in an abandoned postal van. There, he encounters the corpse of a mailman, and to avoid freezing to death, he puts on his uniform. Soon after, he arrives in the town of Pine View with the aim of finding a livelihood and claims to be a real postal officer of the restored government of the United States. In such an environment, where people desperately try to believe in something greater after many years of chaos, the mailman's uniform becomes a symbol of the faded glory of modern society. Gordon, as the 'inspector,' organizes the restoration of postal services, and without initially realizing it, he gradually begins to spread a new hope for the restoration of civilization among the people.
