Harry Bosch has finally left the Los Angeles Police Department. Disgusted by bureaucracy, hypocrisy and endless compromises with the system, he believes he is closing one chapter of his life. He soon discovers, however, that for a man who has spent his entire life seeking the truth, a quiet retirement is merely another form of helplessness. With a private investigator’s licence, he returns to a case he has never managed to put out of his mind: the long-abandoned murder of a Hollywood studio employee. The investigation reached a dead end at the time. Now Bosch has neither a badge nor official authority, only experience, stubbornness and the reputation of a man who does not ask when he should stop. His investigation gradually uncovers links to the disappearance of an FBI computer expert, the deaths of two police officers and an organisation whose influence extends beyond the power of Hollywood producers and whose cynicism surpasses even that of the Los Angeles Police Department. Bosch once again comes face to face with a system that would rather cover its tracks than admit its own guilt. This time, however, the issue is not only the truth, but whether he will be allowed to speak it at all. The contents are in Czech.
