The first volume of the updated edition of the legendary book series 'Scary History' deals with one of the most difficult and saddest topics: World War II, which left behind far more victims and suffering than any other conflict in human history. Can we find anything not directly cheerful or entertaining, but at least absurd and quirky, in something like this? Surprisingly, yes: you'll get to know the brave home guard of British old-timers and youngsters, evaluate the craziest ideas for secret weapons, learn why you can eat worms but not caterpillars when very hungry, or remember that it's better not to wear white underwear to war. In addition, you'll be introduced to many real stories that literally send chills down your spine: about brave spies, the terrible fates of prisoners in concentration camps, burned villages, and the worst crime of all time, the Nazi death camps. To label World War II as merely 'terribly bad' might be an understatement, but that's exactly what 'Scary History' is about: making jokes about something doesn't mean we can't thoroughly learn about those chapters of our past that must never be repeated.
