Beschreibung
The summary publication presents the Czechoslovak Work Association for the very first time over the course of its thirty-year existence. The association significantly modernized not only the fields of housing and architecture but also utility objects, toys, graphic and exhibition design. Its members included progressive representatives of architecture and design from interwar Czechoslovakia, such as Pavel Janák, Ladislav Sutnar, Ľudovít Fulla, and others. Among their most significant achievements are the construction of the first Czechoslovak functionalist settlements in Brno (Nový dům, 1928) and in Prague (Baba, 1932), and especially the House of Applied Arts in the center of Prague. The publication introduces projects through texts by renowned Czech and Slovak authors along with a rich visual supplement of outstanding period photographs by Josef Sudek, Jaromír Funke, František Illk, Alexander Paul, and others.
