Karel Jaromír Erben, a trained lawyer and city archivist for the Prague municipality, was known as a scientist for his strictly systematic approach to ethnographic and historical research as well as his own work. So how could it happen that after 19 years since writing the first ballad, he agreed to have the eagerly awaited and repeatedly postponed first edition of Kytice published in a different form than intended? The plot of the fantastical novel, which takes place at the turn of the 1840s and 1850s, and in the second half of the 1860s, revolves around a single question. Which of the originally considered ballads is missing from the first edition and why? While in the scientific work of Dr. Kakos, who deals with the response to paranormal phenomena in Erben's work, questions pile up, his son Filip has more mundane concerns. The reworked dad is constantly at work, where an attractive colleague is suspiciously interested in him. After moving to a new apartment, the parents are arguing, and instead of going to his grandmother's house, where he is used to, Filip is suddenly shoved into kindergarten!
