Beschreibung
Music is joy, but also physics, technology, and commerce.
World-renowned musician David Byrne explores in his book how deeply music is shaped by the time and place of its origin, and explains how the advent of recording technology in the twentieth century forever changed our relationship with playing, performing, and listening to music.
The author appears in the book as a historian and anthropologist, a storyteller and sociologist, seeking the laws of musical production and showing how these laws have influenced his own work over the years with Talking Heads and many of his collaborators, from Brian Eno to Fatboy Slim, as well as the work of avant-garde artists of the 1980s, such as Patti Smith, Ramones, Blondie, and others.
Although it is a work of non-fiction, the book has a very non-linear structure, where handbook-type facts intertwine with elements of Byrne's autobiography and information about music theory, with each chapter able to stand alone.
