A kind novel about life, death, and friendship. Linda is fifteen. She has a traumatic childhood behind her and no promising prospects ahead. She vividly sees an escape before her eyes: to end her life with a spectacular jump under a car. However, there are people in her life for whom she hesitates to carry out her plan — her mom, Kevin, and Hubert. Kevin is Linda's only friend, a thirteen-year-old whiz kid deeply convinced that due to adults' indifference to climate change, the world is on the brink of extinction. Hubert is a retired sailor of advanced age who hardly ever leaves his apartment and persistently waits for his long-deceased wife. Linda spends three afternoons a week with Hubert to ease his caregiver's burden, facing his advancing dementia with sensitivity and humor. Sometimes she succeeds more, sometimes less. Small things escalate into heightened dramas. And then, quite unexpectedly, Linda's plan almost comes to fruition, and life takes an unexpected turn. But what if Linda has changed her mind about death in the meantime?
