Andrew Perrault finds refuge in the intricate fairy tales he writes for the one person in the world who can bring him back to reality — Thomas Rye, a boy with ink-stained hands. While Andrew loves to lose himself in words, Thomas spends his free time drawing. However, upon returning to school, something strange is happening with Thomas. His abusive parents, with whom he had a poor relationship, have mysteriously disappeared. Thomas remains tight-lipped about the strange events, and whenever Andrew tries to ask him something, he withdraws even further into himself. It becomes clear that Thomas’s drawings have likely come to life and are killing anyone who crosses their path. The boys want to prevent further victims, so they secretly fight the monsters every night. But as their mutual obsession grows, so does the power of the monsters, and Andrew begins to fear that the only way to stop them might be to destroy their creator…
