This Czech-language graphic novel, appearing in Czech translation for the first time, is considered one of the defining works in the history of the medium. Its story unfolds across billions of years, viewed from a corner of an ordinary living room in an ordinary house, moving through time using the distinctive means of comics. At its center are the nameless inhabitants of the house, their small destinies and family snapshots. In 1907, construction of the house begins; in 1609, a man from an Indigenous tribe courts his partner; in 1957, a child is born into the family; in 1986, an archaeologist would like to examine the backyard; and in 1998, a bird flies into the room and causes chaos. The graphic novel connects human lives with fauna and flora: before the area is inhabited, we observe a bison on the grasslands, while motifs of wild nature and an ancient ocean also appear. Visions of the distant future are not absent either. This is a small history of one family and a grand time-lapse of the entire planet.
