The essence of human wisdom in a single book
France, year 1685: The Sun King establishes Catholicism as the only legal religion. Groups of Huguenots are passing through the country, heading north in hopes of finding a new homeland. From the windows of a vagabond's carriage, a group of unusual travelers is observed, heading in the opposite direction to the Pyrenees: Veronika, a courtesan abandoned by her fiancé; the Marquis, a man engaged in alchemy; de Berle, a wealthy merchant; and Gauche, a mute coachman with a loyal yellow dog. Each of them left Paris for a different reason. This journey, at times adventurous, could change not only their fates but also the history of all mankind.
The Journey of the People of the Book (1993) is the literary debut of a famous Polish writer, who in this novel first explored the theme of journey and wandering in search of knowledge, symbolically represented by the motif of the Book, which contains all the knowledge and wisdom of humanity.
This theme was later developed in many other books, through which she became famous worldwide.
