Bo has little left in life besides regular visits from a care service, the loyal love of his dog, and a jar of preserves still smelling of his beloved wife. However, Bo's rheumatic fingers can no longer open the lid of the jar. He doesn't have much time to set things right and to accomplish what seems increasingly impossible — to mend his strained relationship with his son. Now, on top of everything, his son is trying to take away the last comfort in his life — his dog Sixten. The fear of losing his devoted companion stirs a storm of emotions in the old man, forcing him to reflect on his life, fatherhood, and how he expressed love.
