Where can the beliefs of life lead us?
Ester is an ordinary divorced mother, a single parent. That is, except for the fact that she makes a living through prostitution, which she thoroughly hides from those around her, just like the fateful accident that pushed her into this trap. She lives with her son in the Highlands, in a house inherited from her grandmother, whom she often remembers for her kindness, but also for her somewhat constraining bigoted faith. For the stressful income, Ester commutes to the Hatě border crossing, to a bizarre world full of casinos, brothels, markets, and various attractions, where she is offered under the rough supervision of the pimp Mára.
And it is here that another unexpected accident occurs, which will definitively derail the direction of her life. Is it a step towards better or worse in the spiral of manipulation, violence, and poor decisions? Ester is more surviving than living and has only one reason to keep going — her eleven-year-old son Vojta. What would happen if Vojta learned the whole truth about her? What beliefs do we cling to in order to withstand the turbulence of fate? And how does the light before the threshold of death transform us? This is also what the prose debut of the successful writer and artist of many different talents is about.
