Is reading clearing its position and becoming an endangered species? How is our population doing with reading? How much do we read, how many of us buy books and go to libraries? What are our reading hits? And do they change over time? What do we read in the digital environment? How are we doing with the use of other media? What do we most often associate with reading? This publication answers these and many other questions based on a statistically representative survey of the Czech population aged over fifteen. All of this is framed by an introductory chapter on the cultural images that have ever been associated with reading, and a concluding chapter that offers a perspective on reading in the challenges of the present time.
