Beschreibung
The fifth guidebook will take readers through Brno during the times of real socialism. The period of normalization, which began in Czechoslovakia after August 1968 and the occupation of the country by Warsaw Pact troops, represents an important yet ambiguous and controversial period in modern history. The years of Husák's timelessness were significantly felt in Brno as well, but a comprehensive publication introducing readers to how the city and its inhabitants experienced this period has been lacking. The friendly and engagingly written texts, covering seventy specific locations, are accompanied, as in previous guides, by a large number of period photographs, most of which have not been published before. Through examples of historical events, the authors will guide readers through both well-known and forgotten places, as well as the most significant phenomena of real-socialist Brno. Individual entries will present the structures of political power, everyday life, significant personalities, forms of anti-regime resistance, changes in public space, and questions of the city's development and evolution.
