Beschreibung
A giant of Czech journalism in post-November texts ***** Milan Kundera claimed that he would have been the best foreign minister in the post-November era. Antonín J. Liehm became famous primarily for his journalistic work during the sixties in our country, and his subsequent exile made him an extraordinary figure in European culture. He was one of the few strong voices capable of critically commenting on Czech culture, art, society, and politics in any constellation. And he did not stop even after the fall of the Iron Curtain and the return of Czechoslovakia to democracy. A selection of his post-November texts shows that whether his topics were new Czech films, cultural policy, or reflections on journalistic work, he always wrote about them with an awareness of the broader context and connections that link social and cultural life with history and future perspectives. For this reason, Liehm's journalism remains very relevant even after years and has much to say about the state of not only Czech society and culture.
