Beschreibung
The sculptress who left her mark on Czech art ***** The work of Eva Kmentová (1928—1980) forms an arc from realistic sculptures through various forms of figurative modernism to a position resonating with global expressions of new realism. She modeled her sculptures from clay and cast them in plaster, working with concrete, stone, tin, or aluminum. In the 1960s, she touched on structural abstraction and later repeatedly returned to the imprint or cast of the body or bodily fragment. She often captured moments of life viewed from a female perspective. A separate line is formed by her drawings, which can be considered a kind of diary record. Eva Kmentová's work must be perceived from a feminist perspective and categorized with authors who foreshadowed interest in gender issues in Czech art. They were related to the promotion of artistic and partnership equality, the desire for independence, and, last but not least, the search for romantic fulfillment.
