Beschreibung
The long-awaited groundbreaking novel about women, faith, and evil, White Water. This poetically named desolate village, hidden in the shadow of the border mountains, once attracted crowds of pilgrims seeking help from the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary. Centuries later, Lena Lagner arrives here to hide from her past, which has brought her to the brink of suicide. Instead of a monastery with a large religious community, she finds only a few nuns led by the eccentric Sister Evarista. She arrived in White Water on the last night of September 1950, when the communist regime, personified by the demonic Father Plojhar, abducted all the nuns as part of Action Ř and took them to collection monasteries. Young Evarista was given a choice: return to civilian life or share the fate of the others. She didn't hesitate for a moment. Like all the nuns, she was forced into labor and subjected to humiliation in a communist prison and torture to renounce her faith in God. In vain. However, Lena discovers that Evarista's dramatic story is just beginning, and she soon realizes that the demons haunting the past of the White Water nuns have not disappeared and are also part of her own fate.
