The third part of the series about police psychologist Sebastian Bergman. Two women on a hiking trip in the mountains of northern Sweden discover a skeleton's hand by the river. The local police subsequently uncover a total of six bodies: four adults and two children. The Swedish criminal police are called to the case, along with expert on serial killers, psychologist Sebastian Bergman, who has purely personal reasons for participating in the investigation. Torkel Höglund's team soon discovers that all six bodies were buried at the same time, but the condition of the remains is not the same. Two of the bodies are identified as a Dutch couple who have been missing since November 2003. The others remain a mystery — their DNA only proves that they are parents with children. At that time, however, no family was reported missing. Another mystery is a fatal traffic accident that occurred in the same week the Dutch disappeared. The name under which the car was rented leads to no further clues. A lot of things don't make sense to the investigators. The case takes on even greater dimensions when it intersects with the investigation of the strange disappearance of two Afghan immigrants.
