While the heroes of the novel search for the last Caravaggio painting and travel to various corners of the world, the Grandhotel Evropa is flooded with tourists from China. Ilja Pfeijffer, in a rich narrative full of historical and literary references, reflects on migration, sex, and art, illustrating how Europe and the rest of the world are changing under the pressure of globalization and mass tourism.
