Beschreibung
It is so easy to become a Nazi. Understanding the causes is much more complicated. Nazism was whispered about in front of little Christian. It was a monster from a dark past, ominous yet alluring for a young boy. In former East Germany, where capitalist reforms meant humiliation rather than victory for many and where immigration was not experienced to the same extent as in the West until the 1990s, the rhetoric of a strong, independent, and ethnically homogeneous state never lost its appeal. In opposition to a liberal, softened, and multicultural West, a certain ideal of man emerged: militarily austere, protecting the natural order. It only took attending a demonstration or a concert for Christian to become a neo-Nazi. With a newly gained historical distance and critical perspective, Christian's previous views and beliefs were no longer acceptable. The book My Homeland! is the result of a search for the causes of radicalization and the social contexts that turn young people into right-wing extremists.
