Beschreibung
In the second volume of the monograph, the author continues to map the life and work of the composer from 1914 to 1928, when Leoš Janáček died. John Tyrrell focuses in detail on the composer’s peak creative period. Topics related to the creation of the operas The Excursions of Mr. Brouček, Káťa Kabanová, The Cunning Little Vixen, The Makropulos Affair, and From the House of the Dead are covered here, as well as works such as Taras Bulba, Sinfonietta, and Glagolitic Mass. The second volume of the monograph also describes Janáček's life stage referred to as 'great old age' and maps his attitudes towards the establishment of a free state and contemporary art. The book is supplemented by chapters discussing the composer’s approach to opera composition and the selection of themes.
