Czechoslovaks also built a socialist paradise. And they too were expelled. Due to war and wild collectivization, the Soviet Union was economically at its end in 1921. Therefore, it came up with rescue measures: it loosened the strictly controlled economy and asked communists from around the world for help, not just financial — any comrade could come to build agriculture, industrial enterprises, and with them the socialist dream. In March 1925, the first of several expeditions of the Czechoslovak group Interhelpo, mostly made up of workers and small craftsmen, set off. Their destination became Kyrgyzstan, which communist agitators described to them as the promised land. Their surprise was all the greater when they arrived in a semi-desert where the tracks ended. However, that was just the beginning of their tragic story. While they managed to build enterprises and factories, very few of the settlers, who were ultimately expelled and persecuted, would call it a fulfilled dream...
