This interview with the distinguished Czech writer Arnošt Lustig recalls, through his work and masterful storytelling, the tragedy of the Holocaust. Conducted from May to July 2010, during a serious illness, the retrospective conversation covers his experiences in the camps, what it means to be Jewish in the 21st century, and his friends Ota Pavel, Ludvík Aškenázy and pilot Josef Plaček. He also talks about teaching creative writing at an American university in Washington, his loves, and the role of eroticism and sex in life. In this interview, Arnošt Lustig, a Czech Jew, reveals that his true nationality is called “writer.” The book is in Czech.
