Beschreibung

During World War II, all sides faced the problem of how to deal with the threat of enemy armored vehicles. The Wehrmacht, in the interwar period, introduced a 3.7 cm anti-tank gun into its arsenal, and this weapon was used by the victorious armies during the Blitzkrieg. However, it soon became clear that the 3.7 cm gun lacked sufficient firepower, and more powerful weapons needed to be deployed.
In 1942, the heavily tested anti-tank units, Panzerjäger, using towed weapons on the Eastern Front, increasingly sought help from assault artillery units equipped with tracked vehicles, Sturmgeschütz. By the end of 1943, the StuG was being assigned to new tank destroyer units, and at the same time, the development of a special vehicle, the Jagdpanzer tank destroyer, based on the chassis and running gear of the PzKpfw IV tank, was underway.
This book, equipped with rich visual documentation, utilizes archival materials and combat reports to thoroughly examine the development of the Jagdpanzer tank destroyer and many other variants built on the chassis of other German tanks. It also details the organization of Jagdpanzer units and their operational experiences from the battlefield.
