The monograph offers the reader much more than the title promises. It is not just a simple manual for administering sedation and analgesia during routine medical practice in various fields, but also contains little-known facts from animal experiments and clinical studies. In the general section, in addition to a brief history, the individual types of analgosedation are defined, and legislative contexts are provided. Furthermore, the principles of safe analgosedation performed by non-anesthesiologists outside of inpatient facilities are mentioned, along with a detailed overview of the advantages and disadvantages of various methods of drug administration from standard (oral, intramuscular, intravenous) to unconventional (nasal, buccal, sublingual, conjunctival) with examples of use and practice-relevant safety elements when used on patients. An overview of complications directly related to analgosedation and options for their management is available, and analgosedation in special situations (pre-hospital care, emergency admission, aggressive patients) is also discussed.
