The chapter on the physiology and pathophysiology of hematopoiesis clarifies the mechanisms of diseases that manifest throughout childhood, particularly in the neonatal period. The most extensive chapter is dedicated to the differential diagnosis of anemias and their treatment, focusing on the most commonly occurring iron deficiency anemia and anemia of chronic diseases.
