The great success of the first and second editions of the book led to the preparation of a third, expanded and supplemented publication. Pediatric emergency and pre-hospital care is a constantly and rapidly evolving field. With the increasing demands for knowledge and skills of pre-hospital care workers, pediatric emergency departments, and trauma centers, there arises a need to provide them with a modern, appropriately comprehensive, and sufficiently clear textbook. ***** The third edition is again conceived as a collective monograph consisting of a general and a special part. The general chapters describe the elementary principles of pre-hospital care and basic data from pediatric physiology and pharmacology, while the special section subsequently gathers information about specific emergency conditions of both internal and surgical nature that may arise in childhood. ***** Most chapters of the book have been updated based on the latest scientific findings as well as feedback from the professional community and reviewers; in addition, the publication has been expanded with new chapters addressing, among other things, emergency conditions in pediatric diabetology or the specifics of diseases caused by COVID-19 infection in children.
