The book is intended for students of the following non-medical healthcare professions: general nurses, pediatric nurses, and midwives. It presents a comprehensive view of the issues surrounding nursing care for newborns while focusing on innovative procedures and standards recommended by foreign research and the Czech Neonatology Society ČLS JEP. It summarizes the general principles of the field of neonatology from a nursing perspective and also provides examples of specific procedures for newborns with certain health complications. This publication can serve as a basic textbook for students and nurses in these professions, but it also includes topics from specialization postgraduate programs for nurses – Pediatric Nurse or Intensive Care in Neonatology. The publication offers the reader theoretical knowledge necessary for providing nursing care for physiological newborns, as well as for at-risk newborns or those with certain pathologies requiring hospitalization in a higher-level neonatal department. The work contains previously unpublished information about various diseases of newborns, as well as information on psychological support and care for the parents of newborns in palliative care.
