The first part of the book is dedicated to a theoretical introduction, describing the historical aspects of endometriosis, its etiology, and pathophysiological mechanisms. Various theories regarding the onset of endometriosis are mentioned, with increased attention given to the stem cell theory. The different types of stem cells in the human endometrium are described in detail, as well as the role of stem/progenitor cells in the process of endometrial regeneration, the development, and progression of certain diseases, focusing on endometriosis and adenomyosis. A separate chapter summarizes current knowledge about the epidemiology and risk factors of endometriosis. Furthermore, the authors thoroughly address the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain associated with endometriosis and the immunological aspects of endometriosis. The next part of the book is dedicated to the pathomorphology of endometriosis. Due to oncological implications, the issue of atypical endometriosis is emphasized. This is a "mysterious" subgroup of endometriosis, considered to be precursors to tumors associated with endometriosis. A large portion of the book deals with the clinical aspects of endometriosis.
