Beschreibung
Nasal polyposis is an inflammatory disease affecting the sinonasal mucosa, which belongs to a very heterogeneous group of chronic rhinosinusitis. This disease significantly reduces the quality of life of patients, and its prevalence in the population is reported to be approximately 2-5%. The last comprehensive work addressing the issue of nasal polyps was published in our country more than 17 years ago, and since then, the level of knowledge, especially regarding the pathophysiology of polyposis, has advanced significantly. Currently, there is an emphasis on distinguishing the individual pathophysiological mechanisms of so-called endotypes that are responsible for the clinical picture and course of the disease, i.e., the phenotype. In the near future, the goal should be for this specific classification to be reflected in the individualization of therapy, which should be significantly aided by the introduction of biological treatment for nasal polyposis. The book is primarily intended for postgraduate education in otorhinolaryngology; however, useful information can also be found by specialists who come into contact with this issue (allergists and pulmonologists) as well as primary care physicians.
