Beschreibung
The publication currently focuses on the peculiarities of diabetes mellitus (DM) from a nursing perspective, as there is little specialized literature dedicated to this issue. It comprehensively and holistically addresses the biological, psychological, social, and economic needs of a child and family dealing with this serious lifelong chronic illness. The nutritional requirements of a child with DM are detailed, including advice on proper nutrition, which is the foundation of successful treatment. The need for bowel emptying, physical activities, and psychological needs, which vary at different age stages in coping with the illness, are also discussed. The authors have significantly utilized examples of insulin application in various ways, which play an irreplaceable role in the educational process, and highlighted the economic consequences of the disease. The textbook is intended for the undergraduate training of students in non-medical health fields, particularly nursing (pediatric nurse) and midwifery, as well as for nurses and other non-medical health professionals in practice. However, it will also serve as an important information resource for laypersons, such as families with a child with DM or educators in preschool preparation and school teaching for students with this condition.
