We perceive churches in the Czech landscape as a given: they stand in almost every village, dominating squares and city panoramas. For believers, the church is a place of spiritual rest. However, it is also a cultural treasure, a unique collection of peak creative achievements of its time and place. Presenting this wealth to readers in a single book was a challenging task. From a total of more than seven thousand churches and chapels, it was necessary to select just one hundred to represent this vast number across a millennium.
