Beschreibung
The general part of the book describes the basic anatomical structures of the brain in relation to behavior and selected physiological functions of the brain, such as sleep and consciousness, memory, emotions – fear and anxiety, and their influence by drugs. A separate chapter is dedicated to the history of the effects of drugs on the psyche and traditional and non-traditional methods of drug application. The authors also note the influence of behavior by common food items or certain chemical elements. The chapters in the special part of the book discuss in more detail the individual groups of drugs used primarily in anesthesiology, such as benzodiazepines, alpha2-agonists, dissociative anesthetics, mainly with regard to changes in behavior. The authors also explain the use of anesthetics in the immobilization of animals in reserves and zoos, in disaster medicine for special purposes of the police and military, and in executions such as lethal injections, not shying away from cases of misuse, for example during the special forces operation at the Dubrovka theater during the hostage rescue. The book is primarily intended for anesthesiologists, but also for other doctors, especially in intensive medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and clinical pharmacology. It will also be interesting for veterinarians and educated laypeople.
